Home studies are requested when a state wishes to place a child or children, for whom the sending state has legal responsibility, with a caregiver in Illinois. Home studies are comprehensive written reports regarding a family's background and appropriateness for placement. Recommendations for placement and/or other services are included in the reports.
Conversion adoption studies are requested by the sending state for families when the permanency plan changes from foster care to adoption.
Licensing Studies are requested when the sending state requires that a home be licensed as part of that state's placement policy or in order for a family to receive board payments. Licensing studies may also be required for certain private adoption situations. Licensing includes background checks, completion of medical exams, home inspections, written references, and foster parent training.
Supervision includes monthly in-person contact with all children placed through the Interstate Compact, collaboration with the sending state, referrals to appropriate services, and comprehensive quarterly reports. Consultation services are available regarding programming and management of Interstate Compact services.
