Spanish-Speaking Home Study Consultant

The agency is interested in contracting with qualified Spanish-speaking workers to conduct home study evaluations in northern Illinois. These studies are to determine the suitability of a referred caregiver to take placement of a relative child(ren) who is in foster care in another state. The position requires travel in northern Illinois. Consideration of geographic preferences are taken into account for case assignments. Consultants set their own schedules and have a say in the amount of work they accept. The agency currently serves the northern quarter of Illinois including: Cook, DuPage, Will, Lake, Kane, Kendal, McHenry, Kankakee, Grundy, DeKalb, Boone, Winnebago, Ogle, Lee, Whiteside, Carrol, Stephenson, and Jo Daviess counties.

Preferred consultants are veteran social workers with some experience in the child welfare field. Familiarity interviewing family members and providing recommendations in child welfare cases is ideal.

Successful consultants require minimal oversight, are organized, make multiple collateral contacts and can decipher complex situations. Desired applicants have excellent clinical skills with an in-depth understanding of family systems and child attachment.

Applicants must be excellent writers adept in English usage and grammar. Well-written and comprehensive reports are required to be submitted within a specific timeframe. You will need to have basic understanding of technology and be able to utilize your cell phone and computer with internet connection to perform tasks.

Being curious and diligent in tactfully obtaining information is a must. You will also need to be able to demonstrate an understanding of what makes a successful child welfare placement as well as have a solid understanding of the factors that can make placements more challenging or preclude a child coming into a home. Ability and willingness to incorporate feedback to hone clinical skills and writing is required.

A master’s degree in Social Work (MSW), Psychology, or Counseling is required. An Illinois license in a discipline is strongly preferred.
